Hi, I'm Tania! So Glad You're Here.

Hi! My name is Tania Rak. I am a journalist, communications specialist, and freedom activist from Ukraine.

A graduate of Mariupol State University, I obtain MA with Honors in Journalism, Mass Media Communications, and English translation, and was awarded by the Presidential Scholarship named after Vyacheslav Chornovil for outstanding achievements in journalism. My additional journalistic qualifications include courses from Internews Ukraine, Young Voices, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and Urban Tech 1991. As a journalist, I have 8 years of experience with work on TV, radio, podcast production, digital and printed media. My words and comments, and lives were featured at such media as Fox News, HackerNoon, the BBC, Radio Free Europe, Elle Ukraine, and many others.
 

I always combined journalism with work in communications and activism, which was determined by my passion in the issues of human rights, civil liberties, technological advancements, and global digital transformations.

 

Here, I got extensive experience working with tech businesses, creating and implementing PR strategies for medtech, edtech, and fintech projects, as well as non-profits dedicated to the support of women in tech.

 

My activism began in my student years by volunteering for AIESEC, where I built the incoming exchange program for foreign students, bringing them to my native city — Mariupol — and debunking the myths about life in the frontline city. Later, I joined Students for Liberty where I got the supportive environment to talk about the freedom of media and speech, which intensified with the breakout of war in my country. 

 

Today, I serve as the Chief Communications Officer at We Are Innovation, the network of 40+ think tanks and institutions, where we advocate for a future where technological progress and individual liberties go hand in hand. I am a part of the SpeakFreely editorial board, and in my free time, I write materials about tech, politics, economics, and lifestyle. 

I also do consulting on building the personal brand and strategic communications for non-profits.

 

I dedicate my work to the principles of liberty and individual rights, which I believe are fundamental to any rights-respecting society.
